Discerning Her Shadows
Ashlynn Forrest is a royal outcast kept in the shadows about who she really is. The mysteries behind each of the king’s appointed deaths and beatings send her into an awakening. But, her awakening might cost her more than she is willing to lose.
Discovering the king is controlled by an evil curse forces Ashlynn to escape her uncle’s wrath. In hopes to find a cure before the rest of the kingdom succumbs to its sickness, she flees across dangerous lands riddled with Knarkes, Elves, Dragons, and other mystical beasts. This is an incredible book, with rich nuance! The author did an incredible job developing the characters, contextualizing the setting, and creating pace. At its core, this novel is a heroine's journey of personal empowerment. This is a layered, multidimensional story; with sentences and dialogue serving both to further the plot and as pearls of wisdom, with learnings applicable to my own life that shifted my perspectives. I can't wait to read it again!

Ashlynn Forrest is a royal outcast, longing to find her place in her world as well as answers about her past. Nothing could prepare her for the truth.
This book starts at a running pace and never lets up as readers follow Ashlynn and her companions into uncharted territory.
I was surprised and pleased at the depth of emotion and feeling that the characters portray. And there are plenty of twisty bits that push you along, and keep you ready to know what will happen next.
All in, this is a stunning debut that you need to add to your collection ASAP!
This book is perfect for fans of Graceling, The Hobbit, and magical, epic quests!

Discerning Her Shadows was such a great read. It's a beautiful tale that weaves in adventure, ancient wisdom and mysticism. It's one of those books that I could read again and again and discover different gems of wisdom each time I read it.

Just... amazing! I love this book so much! The way everything was woven together in this story of empowerment was so captivating. Everything from character depth to plot and dialogue just wraps you in. It was hard to put down! Ashlynn is such a role model and I absolutely cannot wait until book 2! 😍

A debut novel you don't want to miss!
Wow! This book was so well written. I couldn't believe that it was Tara Webb's debut. This story was an incredible adventure with dynamic characters. I loved that Ashlynn was such an outcast despite being royalty. She was such a strong, well rounded character to root for.
The story flows beautifully, and Webb has a way of transporting you into another world. I loved the family themes in this book. Ashlynn's connection with her mother was beautiful and added more depth to the story. Can't wait to see what happens in the next one!

Magic, elves, dragons, and friendship. What is not to love. I really enjoyed following the character growth with Ashlynn, as she finds her inner strength. The beauty of the settings and the connections on the characters were well done. Very much looking forward to what happens next.

Discerning Her Shadows was a beautiful debut novel by Tara Webb! The author painted such an elegant picture when telling Ashlynn’s story, and it felt like I was in the room with the characters. Each character was developed wonderfully, and I can’t wait to read the second story in this series! ❤️
