Tarnished Empire was my first experience with this author.

This book tells the forbidden love story of a girl and her father's worst enemy.
The blurb didn't say much, but I was hooked by it and this gorgeous cover.

Unfortunately this one wasn't what I was expecting.

I really liked how she ended the story, a little bit tragic and predictable, but although I was expecting that plot twist, it was what saved my reading time and this 3 stars rating.

Until more than 60% of the book, I was bored to death. I understand that the author tried to build a connection between Alaric and Phoenix, but a large part of the book was just a mixture of some survival documentary with a hot presenter who knew how to do everything, and a PG-13 slow burn romance.

In the last 30% of the book I could enjoy an adult novel, and I wish I could have had more of that action and interaction with other characters in the entire book.

If you enjoy slow burn romance, you'll probably like this one.

And I'll probably give this author another try.

I lost all hope for this book when right at the start the h was acting like a hormonal teen

I shake my head. “I can’t.” I really freaking can’t because the way I’m all jumbled up, I’d forget why I’m here and end up kissing this man. My gaze dips on instinct, and I look at his full and majorly kissable lips.

HUNNY! You just met two seconds ago! Calm your vagina down!

So the start was a complete bust for me, we had Phoenix (h) here trying to play the “hero card” to help get back her fathers guns that Alaric (H) stole. Her plan was to try to seduce Alaric by playing the “hard to get” card to lure him in and figure out where he hid the guns. But obviously the plan backfired as
1) Alaric ended up being extremely HOT that Phoenix couldn’t think straight
2) Alaric figured out who she was the minute after their conversation ended.

So NOW Alaric is the one playing the game and decided to kidnap her and use her as leverage. He invited her to his yacht and she ends up being stuck there with him in the middle of nowhere.

Here I would have preferred if the book started off with Phoenix being kidnapped, instead of her hormonal issues being the reason she gets played.

After that the book was a snooze fest for me. The plot was good but I just couldn’t enjoy it because there was no chemistry between the characters.

Tarnished Empire gave you the forbidden aspects, the mystery, and it kept you guessing in certain situations. This story was filled with an underlying desire that you wanted to come to the surface immediately but you also felt the consequences that were creeping up in slow whispers if they were to ever cross that line.

Alaric has been on a mission for the past four years and that is to avenge the death of his brother. His number one enemy is out of sight but for a man like Alaric, he won’t be for long. With a plan in motion, the tables are about to turn in a way that is going to bring nothing but chaos and destruction. What happens when your number one enemy has something that you want? You go to all out war with the biggest ace in your arsenal.

Phoenix has always known that she has led a sheltered life from her father’s business and she has never had a problem with that until now. When circumstances has her going to the forefront to do something out of the ordinary, Phoenix comes face to face with her family’s biggest rival and that chance encounter will seal her fate.

This story was different form your normal forbidden romance and I was really excited about that because the possibilities were endless. I really liked the banter between the main characters in the beginning and I thought that this was going to be really special between them but somewhere along the line, I became bored and aggravated with the heroine and what she was doing or in this case, saying. I loved Alaric and thought that he knew how to handle himself and protect anyone who meant something to him.

Even though this was not my favorite read, I still enjoyed some parts of the story and I think that if you’re looking for a different kind of forbidden romance in a setting like this, then you should give this one a try.

The ultimate enemies to lovers romance that will keep you riveted until the very end! This book was not what I expected. Hang on tight because it’s a heck of a ride.

Alaric wanted vengeance. Phoenix just wanted to save her father. Together they would have to find common ground to survive and maybe just get more than they could have imagined.

A story of love and vengeance. Alaric will have to choose between exacting justice to avenge his brother or to let it go so that he can build a life with Phoenix. Nothing is ever that simple. But even the bad guys have their own code of honor.

Alaric thought he knew the truth, but now he has his doubts. It’s time to find out what really happened.

A roller coaster of emotions with this unexpected journey to love. Phoenix has always been strong and resilient. Now even her strengths will be put to the test. She may hate Alaric when their story begins, but that slowly starts to change. They share an intense attraction that neither can deny, but now they are forced to come to a truce so that they can work together and survive. When that attraction hits a boiling point, the culmination is explosive. Alaric isn't used to feelings, especially the kind he is developing for Phoenix. The man that is confident and capable has met his match.

She's stubborn to a fault at times, but that trait will serve her well as she goes up against Alaric. The banter and disagreements are just the foreplay. When they finally give in, it is nothing short of magical. Their connection can overcome even the most difficult of obstacles. They will both be put to the test, but in the end it will be worth the fight. The most perfect Happily Ever After for two people who deserve love and a family of their own.

“Words are just words without action.”

Although Alaric and Phoenix's love story is the highlight, they have their story arcs. Alaric’s dysfunctional relationship with his family and Phoenix could never be with her loved ones due to other external circumstances. They both find love and grow. It is beautifully developed. I liked Alaric more than Phoenix. He was more sensible and consistent throughout the book. I did enjoy her sass, I’ll give her that. I wasn’t very into the story in the beginning mostly because of Phoenix because, from a logical point of view, I couldn’t comprehend her decisions. She’s not a spy, she has no fight training whatsoever. As soon as she becomes aware of her father’s situation, she abruptly opts to uncover all of Alaric’s weaponry intel. Nix places her bets on seduction without a back-up plan. Predictably, Phoenix faces the consequences of grossly underestimating her enemy.

“I’m trapped here indefinitely, all because I was stupid enough to walk into a damn trap.”

In the first few chapters, I was as amused by her as much as Alaric was. She is extremely naive but it still felt unreal. But the plot turns a different direction and everything gets better. I got to see different layers in both of them. Details from Alaric and Phoenix’s tragic pasts are explored. There will also be many swoon-worthy moments.

“Only the dead have seen the end of the war.”

Tarnished Empire is written from both the main characters' perspectives and I enjoy romances more this way. These characters went places I did not expect them to go, literally and figuratively. Some of the locations are a treat for any reader to imagine. It contains simple diction and fast pacing. The only nitpick I have is the climax and it's not necessarily a negative thing. It just felt rushed. I was flipping pages by the second in the last few chapters and I wanted more.

This book kept me on my toes. That sentence sums up my thoughts.Tarnished Empire is one of the best dark romances I’ve read. I devoured it in one sitting. I look forward to reading and reviewing more books to come. Recommend this book to all New-Adult romance genre readers. ARC provided by Ava Harrison and Valentine PR. Thank you.

4 Unexpected Crowns

Tarnished Empire was completely unexpected. To be honest, I don’t read Ava’s blurbs. I just read the book, and with a cover like that I wasn’t even I tempted to read the blurb. I knew the world from Corrupt Kingdom (both TE and CK are standalones), the cover was gorgeous, and I enjoy her stories so I didn’t care to read the blurb.

I think this had an influence on my perception of the story. I expected more enemies to lovers, more violence and angst, more of the back and forth. I got a great story of survival. I really enjoyed seeing these two come together and attempt to fight their attraction for each other. I overall enjoyed the characters. If the ending would have been punched up a bit, pulled us back to the world of arms dealers and mafia business, I would have been in love with this.

I will say that Ava threw a twist in there that I had an inkling about but it made the story.

Overall, this isn’t my favorite Ava book, but it has a alpha hero you’ll love and a feisty heroine you’ll enjoy. The chemistry between them is fantastic, and the story line is one that is unexpected and not a typical romance plot line today.

I'm familiar with Ava Harrison but not THAT familiar with her. What I do know is that she comes up with interesting concepts for her books, and here that's once again true. It's not the same 24/7 in every book, and I truly appreciate that as a reader. Also, Ava writes great characters. Her heroines are always above-average in my liking. Strong ladies that kick ass and that don't let anybody uproot them. Here, she tries that concept, but it falls a bit flat. Nonetheless, Phoenix is an enjoyable character that is unfortunately a little too naive for the dangers of Alaric's world. She's relatable though, and she has a great backstory. She's also loyal.
Alaric. Where do we start here? He was entertaining. A bit too arrogant for my liking and a bit contradicting, too. So you've never harmed anyone that didn't deserve it, huh?? I won't comment on that any further because of spoilers. He saw right through our heroine, and I have to give it to him. He's observant. He was hot, and once the layers stripped down, he was lovable as well. I wish that we got more from his POV in regards to his family in the mid part. It would've given me more to swoon about, but it was all right. I recommend this story to all the lovers of tortured bad guy heroes, strong leading ladies, and a helluva plot twist in the end. (A bit rushed but enjoyable still!)

ORIGINAL COMMENT
First half was not my type but 50%-85% was pretty cool when I finally got used to the characters and the setting. The ending felt rushed after such a long setup! On a positive note, the cover is gorgeous, and the author tried really hard with her girl - Ava has done better with her lead girls though.

I always enjoy stories about people falling in love in situations like this.
4+⭐️

Alaric Prince is not a nice man. He is dangerous and her father’s enemy. Not a good combination.
Alaric is the anti hero that you hate or love. He’s a villain through and through but once he meets Phoenix she sees becomes the light to his darkness.🖤🖤🖤

I love the fact that even though she was afraid of him, it never showed and that drove him crazy.
If you are in the mood for something darker, this is the right choice for you.

I did enjoy this book however it just took a long time to start. I understand characters building is what it was. Trying to destroy the man that is my fathers competition & enemy is simple, or so I thought. Being hidden away and not having my fathers last name was hurtful. But I figured out it was for a reason. Now that I know what my father did for a living I wanted in the family business to help my father anyway I could. Seducing Alaric Prince was easy, well until I felt the boat he invited me on for a party leaving the dock.

Most people under estimate me, especially when the last 4 years I wanted revenge on the one man I believe is responsible for my empire being tarnished. I found out my enemy sent his daughter Phoenix to lure me into a trap. However I lure the dove into a cage she won't be able to escape. Now my enemies have come looking for me and now I have to protect not only myself now my dove and hope we both can come out of this unscarred.

Instant Top 10 & Book Hangover Guaranteed

Just when I think that Ava Harrison has given me all the twists and turns possible, she comes back with an amazing plot and character arc leaving me in a book hangover. Alaric is the book boyfriend your parents do not want you to have and you will not be able to resist by the end. Phoenix is the stubborn, intelligent, heroine that can go toe-to-toe with the hero even in the most jaw-dropping scenarios. The suspense, romance, and action sequences in this book make it an Instant Top 10 in 2020 for me. Only thing that can top this will be the audio version – which I will be devouring as soon as it hits my account!

'Tarnished Empire' is a standalone by the best-selling author Ava Harrison. Told in dual Perspectives , this book was one wild ride!

I have always been a die hard fan of this author , especially because of those twists and turns her books have. You anticipate one thing and this author throws you off by giving you the best punch in the face twist of all times! And she doesn't stop there… nah , she goes on giving those twists until you are a complete mess!

This book was no less. Alaric is the heir of his Father's company. A tragedy took his last living family member , so now the only thing on his mind is revenge. Revenge for his brother's death. Michael has been on his radar for a long time and he won't stop until the man responsible for his brother's death is dead himself.

Phoenix is in a delima. She has never seen her adoptive father so tense. When she asks him about it , he surprises her with the truth. He is being targeted. Someone is trying to kill the only man who means everything to her. So she takes the task of getting him out of this on her shoulders. She willingly walks into Alaric's den, all prepared to make him lose at his own game. That is until she gets tricked.

Alaric is not a forgiving man. Nor is he a stupid one. The woman in the bar had him intrigued right from the start , and he was on a mission to find out who she was from the moment she dismissed him so casually. That is until he got to know her real identity. It seemed like Michael didn't have an adoptive son. He had a daughter. A daughter who was as beautiful as she was deadly. Unfortunately for her , she was also now trapped with him. It was his turn to play his enemies daughter and lure him out. A part of Him was too excited to play with Phoenix.

By the time Phoenix realises her mistake , it is too late. She is already trapped. Trapped on a ship with the devil himself. A devil so beautiful that she can't help but be drawn to him , all the while hating him too. Because she knows he is going to kill her father. And maybe destroy her in the process too. Still a part of her is intrigued by him. Needless to say , both of them were doomed right from the start.

The storyline of the book was amazing , just there were a few things that didn't sit well with me. The first being , it was a bit of stretch at how easily Phoenix assumed that she would be fooling Alaric. I mean she could have formed a plan first. Nahh.. she went there to meet- sorry , seduce him, in all her glory, not at all prepared for what would happen if she caught her.

That was a bit too careless for me. Another thing that I found a bit unsettling was the pace of the story. At first it was very slow. Then at the end there were so many huge twists and turns within a span of a few chapters only! I am not saying that it was a bad thing , but it would have much better if the author could have expanded the ending a bit. It was a bit of a whip splash for me.

Needless to say I really loved this book and the Twists were to die for! So were the side characters! I hope a few of them get their own stories. A definite recommendation to all dark Romance lovers out there!

You don't have idea what this book is. It goes to my 2020 favorites list.
When I thought there wasn't man that I going to love more than Cyrus Reed, I met Alaric Prince. And don't judge me, I love Cyrus, but Alaric just has my heart.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
The story is incredibly fascinating, when you start you can't stop reading.
First of all this is an enemies to lovers, and who doesn't love that?
With this book I laughed, I cried, I suffered. You go through so many emotions and the book has so many unexpected plot twists that you can't stop reading.
Alaric and Phoenix are everything.
Phoenix is a really beautiful character, God I lover he so freaking much, she's strong, brave and determined.
Something I loved about her was that strong love and loyalty that she has to his dad.
Alaric, I totally agree, he's an arms dealer and that’s why I can't tell you that he's the perfect man, but ... he is 😂.
He's mysterious, sexy, strong, and specially he's so funny.
That was something I loved so much about the book, I laughed so much with Alaric and Phoenix's fights.
And he's sooooo cute with Phoenix. I love him!
I don't know why but Ava Harrison just writes such irresistible men.
Now the book has a plot twist that when it happens is totally unexpected.
I started reading with an idea about what the book was and when this happens I couldn't believe it, that event shocked and surprised me in a very good way.
Spoiler alert: There's a Cyrus cameo♥️ to whom I'm being totally unfaithful with Alaric.
EXTREMELY RECOMMENDED.

ah...
Just like with the Corrupt Kingdom, I just DO NOT feel the actual connection between the characters, I don't feel the lust, I don't feel the chemistry at all...

The animosity, oh yeah, it's in full force and it works on that level BUT I'm missing that pent up chemistry needed for the "enemies to lovers" to work for me...

And the fact that but honestly it's lost on me...*sigh*

this is most probably the "it's me NOT you" case, so, I have nothing else to say.... :/

From the blurb to the cover to the thrilling plot, Tarnished Empire has it all. What begins as a battle of wills slowly warps into so much more. This is an enemies to lovers romance executed flawlessly!
Alaric and Phoenix are pure chemistry heightened further with each passing scene. The angst and drama unfolding left me hovering to each page. I couldn’t read fast enough, couldn’t devour this author’s graceful prose quick enough to sate my need to know. Another Top 2020 read for me and highly recommended!

This started off amazing Phoenix going undercover to trap her fathers enemy Alaric but what I didn’t understand was how on earth did Alaric figure out it was her on the first day like we get you have connections but she had been hidden all her life so it was super unrealistic. I loved the wittiness and sarcasm from the pair it was rather enjoyable to read however it went down hill when they were stranded on a deserted island because they were there for ages like it was soo boring to read. The plot twist was good with Damian but I feel like the whole ending was rushed with him.

A TALE OF TWO DISCONNECTED HALVES OF A STORY

“Life is pretty fucking good”

… until a kingpin’s vendetta to avenge his brother’s murder gets tangled up in a daughter’s scheme to save her ” dad” from being targeted for execution. This is a book-end story< where the vendetta is at the beginning and end, while the middle is all filler about enemy MCs stranded on an island where they find love. No, it doesn’t mesh well together, but the end picks up with rushed closure and some long-overdue, touching romance.

Young gun Alaric Prince (34) runs a tarnished empire and wants gun runner Michael’s life as payment for allegedly killing his brother. The scheme has been in play a few years with some family baggage attached, but Alaric is dead set on killing Michael. Michael’s surrogate daughter Phoenix (22) gets involved by seducing her way into Alaric’s life (she thinks) for info that could save Michael, which backfires. This is pretty standard fare with a pair of alluring leads … at first. Then it unexpectedly does an abrupt about-face and turns into a romance between the enemy couple as shipwrecked lovers. What?

I’m a total pushover for island castaway romance with survival dangers, the sensuality of all that sun, skin and sand in deceptively dangerous paradise, and the close proximity of relying on each other that inevitably breeds unbridled passion. That said, I never saw the story shift coming in this revenge tale, or that it would drag on for half the book. Not at all in keeping with the setup, and the story falters. The characters repeat themselves often -- to each other and in their heads with endless inner thoughts -- and mostly try to keep their hands off each other despite temptation. While they’re shipwrecked, the revenge scheme is put on ice.

Normally, this author’s books appeal to me. This book switched gears too fast, and wasted time keeping the MCs apart in a pull-push standoff while awaiting rescue. The abundance of plot holes and gaps of logic were too numerous to ignore. This was not a well-conceived or well-written story.

Let me just say it: Mature Alaric (awful name) is HAF and scrumptiously cool for a supposed bad guy. He behaves very fairly toward kidnapped Phoenix (although we don’t know the whole story behind his brother’s murder), is wildly attracted to her, nicknames her “Dove” for her petite frame, and shows a caring, protective, and vulnerable side that the stubborn girl just ignores. She’s a total, immature brat, always hating on Alaric and not focused on the teamwork needed for their survival. Her resistance bored me stiff as she fights, rebuffs, and bickers every step of the way on the island, despite Alaric constantly protecting her and saving her life. No surprise that his hot looks get the best of her and they end up in a frisky truce to pass the time, with their enemy status put on hold along with the real world.

I could go on for days about the illogical things that happened in this book and especially made me lose interest in the shipwrecked portion that took up a majority of the story. Knowing things before it makes sense (Phoenix’s knowledge of the murdered brother without being told); contradicting things that were already established (was she adopted or not?); and all the absurdity that goes down with their actions on the island that defied logic – the wrong-way riptide swim to safety, numerous things surrounding the absurd “week-long” hurricane and cave fiasco that made no sense; no infections despite serious wounds; blah sex and outdoor sex in a hurricane; the lame plan to sail to a better island in a life raft that can't be steered; being found miraculously in the open ocean by Alaric’s underling a month after being shipwrecked. Clean water and fire logs appeared out of thin air, and wasn’t Alaric’s yacht destroyed in the pirate attack, and yet it was not? The whole thing was more like fantasy island.

The setup was really intriguing, and the shipwreck started out good but lacked real world credibility, and the last 25% returned to the real world in something of a Cinderella reunion that recaptured romantic interest, but rushed closure on the dead brother vendetta. Wordy explanations were flying all over the place, and characters changed from one page to the next for the vendetta wrap-up. Several times I put the book down. It wasn’t a page-turner. The story was pretty jumbled, and Phoenix was beyond annoying. This wasn’t one of my faves by this author.

Loved it

This was my first read by this author and she has a new fan in me! I loved Alaric and Phoenix. Alaric was the perfect bad boy antihero but Phoenix is no pushover. I enjoyed their banter and chemistry. The writing and storyline was engaging. If you're looking for a story with twists and turns and the right amount of heat this one is for you!

3 stars

Let me just start by saying…

This cover.

Nice.

Anyway, back to business…

This is a low 3 stars for me. It took me a while to warm up to this plot. At the start of the book we’re introduced to the main characters and everything happens rather quickly. I didn’t like the pace of the writing and didn’t really care for the characters at this point. I pushed on regardless.

Then a plot twist happens midway through and our protagonists end up stranded alone for weeks. Here we get a lot of character development for Ava and Alaric. I liked their relationship when it was just the two of them and they did have some great chemistry at times, but I found the plot to be a little dull overall.

There’s a further plot twist, that you may or may not see coming, later on. I didn’t see it coming so was pleasantly surprised by it.

I think that mediocre, with some good parts, is how I would describe this “ enemies to lovers “ plot.

Wow.

This book was emotional than I've anticipated. It was truly unexpected. I started thinking that this is going to be some kind of a mafia-ish romance, but I was wrong. It's more than that. Sure there was shooting, siege, kidnapping, torture and etc but it was also an emotional read.

I cried, on more than one occasion. I don't know if I'm just being hormonal and sentimental but there are more parts of the book that would surely pull on your heartstrings.

And that plot twist, man. I wasn't able to predict that. I usually could, but this one, no.

Love this book. It kept me on my toes. It was riveting, page after page from beginning to end.

I definitely recommend it!

With a cover like that, how could I not want to pick this one up! Tarnished Empire ended up being total unexpected. I expected this to be mafia captive, hostile enemies to lovers - but this story took me totally off guard. Instead this is more like Romeo and Juliet meets the Blue Lagoon.

The plot starts out like a familiar mafia treat- Alaric, head of his family’s mafia/arms dealing is out for revenge against the man he believes killed his father. But from there, Ava totally delivers a fresh and unique take- a story I didn’t expect. He’s recently delivered a real hit to his enemy’s business, so much so that the enemy’s daughter, Phoenix, a daughter that Alaric knows nothing about, decides to sidling up to Alaric in hopes of gathering intel on him to report back to her father. Of course, that scheme is short lived, and once she’s discovered she finds herself at the mercy of her father’s enemy….and of Alaric’s enemies as well. Which leaves her and Alaric in a unique situation- enemies who have to somehow work together to survive a situation I (or they) never expected.

Alaric is delicious- a strong, dominant, alpha hero with a giant soft heart buried under all his stoic responsibility and hard edge bravado. Not only do we get some sweetness and vulnerability from him, but he’s surprisingly resourceful and clever. His protective nature and passionate emotions had me swooning, and of the two main character, he’s definitely the one who grew and evolved more. HIs characterization felt both consistent and more steadily progressed- which had me really invest in him, not to mention in love.

There is a lot to like about Phoenix- she’s strong willed, loyal, compassionate, and fighter- all things I love in a push-pull heroine. She’s true to her namesake. But, even so, she took a minute for me to warm up to. At times she’s almost too obstinate - a bit foolhardy- which made me respect her a bit less. Her gullible belief she could so easily trick Alaric was so misguided it was comedic, and she stubbornly puts herself in danger repeatedly. Although, I like when Alaric rescues her (swoon), but I couldn’t really get into her until Ava gives us her vulnerability- we see her soft side, learn a bit more about why she’s admirable, resilient but frustratingly stubborn. Eventually, I grew to love her- I just needed some time.

The pacing of this story had me stalling in a few places- we had an interesting and foreboding beginning and then what felt like a lot of exposition to get to the unexpected forced cohabitation, and then we get so deeply into the ins and outs of that existence that the relational elements very slow. I’m glad I pushed through- once these two start to authentically connect and once you figure out just what kind of story this is going to be, I really enjoyed it. There are twists a plenty- just when I thought I’d figured out the plot something else would change direction- and that did keep me engaged. While I found the beginning a bit slow, the end had a lot of moving pieces that wrapped up just a smidge too quickly - I felt like I needed to explore the “real world” functioning of their relationship a smidge more, plus there was so much drama unfolding I would have loved to linger a bit more. The twists were so interesting and amazing (some I expected, others not), but the quick revelations and resolutions I think shortchanged their epicness slightly.

I loved the danger and action elements, and the chemistry was both sexy and then ultimately sweet. I definitely really bought into this story once these two finally connected emotionally, and I definitely appreciate Ava’s unique approach to forced cohabitation/enemies to lovers- not only did it surprise me but it feels fresh, not only to mafia romance but just romance in general. Overall, an entertaining and unique read.

This book was such an emotional ride!
I love this author and with this book she had me at the edge of my seat. This was one of the best Mafia romance books I have ever read.
Alaric and Phoenix are two difficult characters but I slowly warned up to them.
The book is full of twists and turns and our heroes have to make difficult decisions. Their feelings for one another were new to both of them, especially Alaric, but their connection was so strong and as the story progressed it went on another level.
I thoroughly enjoyed this bumpy journey. Do not miss it!!!

Lies, deception, mayhem, murder and control. All things that Alaric Prince thrives off of but it is revenge that keeps him going. That is until Phoenix has her own plans that revolve around getting information from Alaric in order to save her father. But when the two end up trying to survive on a deserted island will the mistrust and sense of hatred be overcome with feelings of love and lust? What happens when the two are rescued? With each and every turn of the page, the reader is taken on a journey with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen - BAM - Ava Harrison throws it all away and you will never believe where she take the story. With characters that the reader cannot help but fall in love with, this was a fantastic read.

Ava has once taken us on a ride with her vivid imagination. Alaric and Phoenix will take a hold of you and pull you into their world. This couple has such pull toward one another. They are smart, sexy, unpredictable and so unexpected. I loved it.
Alaric is my father's enemy and he has been taking from us. He is under the assumption that my father killed his brother. I am Phoenix and I thought that I was strong enough to help take back what is ours and resist him. I don't think that I am . I made mistakes and I will make them again. I am now his prisoner and we are being hunted. Can we fix what is broken to come out of this alive and one. Tarnished Empire was captivating, tantalizing, heartbreaking, steamy and had so many twist turns and a complicated ride!

5 Flying Dove Stars⭐
A Dark+Dramatic but Plenty of Sweet+Swoon Story With A War, Enemies, A Bait, Dangers from all sides, Hilarious Banters and Finding Love while Surviving❤.
I Soo Loved Alaric & Phoenix!
I liked the writing style, was sucked in the story, DEVOURED this in 8hrs.

#My 1st by Ava, I'm totally going for more!

Alaric is Ruthless but Hot+Charming AF: An Anti Hero with a Sarcastic Sense of humor. He's got morals, Doesn't kill those who don't deserve it..Also He never harms Phoenix, so points in his favor. And, You can't help but fall in love with him! He's that Irresistible *wink*.
Phoenix is the •adoptive• daughter of his enemy.
“She challenges me. She calls me on my shit. She’s a little spitfire, and yes, it doesn’t hurt that she’s stunning. She’s an untamable fire. Like a Phoenix, she falls, but every time she gets back up.” ~Alaric
[They've 12yrs Age-Gap, but they don't care & Neither do I]

She wanted to help her Dad, as Alaric was slowly destroying his Business. So for info, She found Alaric's attention then got invited to his Yacht..
But She Underestimated him AND Fell to his Plan.
(Her internal monologue's fun!
I liked how she felt fear but never showed him! It infuriated him *chuckle*.)

Now on his boat, with him, His guards + Ocean All around..She was Trapped. A Bait to use against her Dad.
The Spark b/w Alaric & her is So Hot from the start! Even in this situation, they can't deny it..

“That’s why she’s dangerous. She’s the female version of me.” ~Alaric
“This isn’t real. It shouldn’t feel this good. But it does.” ~Phoenix

Well, Being on that Yacht was atleast better than Stranded on an unknown island..But exactly that happens when Pirates attack *Oh shit*, Just before Alaric's Plan Won.
BUT The island's the Game-Changer.
Being there, all alone, Enmity didn't matter, Survival did.
Cue Truce!
They go through so much here..Fear, Pain, Danger, Storms..And learn to trust + Open up to eachother *Swoon*.
“I have you.”
“But who’s got you?” I ask.
“I was hoping you,” he responds. All I see is loneliness. Fear. Feelings that mirror my own.

Alaric is such a survival expert! He saves her life, teaches her to survive, Cares for her. We see a new side of him..And I fell so Hard for him here!
“I don’t know when she did it, but Phoenix flew right into my chest, making a nest for herself. I’m not sure when that happened, but I care about her.”
~Alaric

In the midst of all the danger, they become eachother's Solace..Desire Finally Explodes!
“One taste will never be enough.”
~Alaric
“..Alaric Prince has changed my life. And I would like to think he’s changed me for the better..” ~Phoenix

And As Days Go By, They fell in Love..
“Our outcome is unknown, but if I die in his arms, I’ll be okay. Neither one of us profess our love, but we don’t need to. It’s written in every touch.”
~ Phoenix

Gladly no one has to Die, A hope sounds in the Storm!
But After Rescue, what'll happen Next?

A love so Deep that it defies the war
... Letting Go, Love Realisations, A Masquerade ball, Cute Stalking, Love Confessions *Yay!*, Baby Surprise, Correcting the Wrongs, So many Twists..

Btw, Why did this war happen? The reason was the endgame, The truth a Suspense.
There are Casualties for a War that shouldn't have ever started..*Sad tears*
Through So much Darkness, Phoenix is Alaric's Light. Their Love gives Hope, Their HEA worth it all.

The epilogue was Beautiful❤.
“We give each other a place we both belong—filled with hope, love, peace—and most of all, a family. And when you have those things, time holds no meaning, and the possibilities are infinite. Like the sea. ~Phoenix

This story is a MUST!
